As is known to all, gaining a sound knowledge of the basics is of vital importance for students to master an academic subject. I fully agree with the above opinion. I have two arguments to support it.

First of all, learning the basics helps students be prepared to master an academic subject. As everyone knows, learning is a step-by-step process. Students should start with the basic knowledge of an academic subject before they are able to reach a higher level. Moreover, the knowledge of the basics contains the universal law of a subject, which can be applied to different branches of the academic subject. Thus gaining a sound knowledge of the basics is necessary for mastering the knowledge of various branches of the academic subject.
