1、What changes have happened in the city these years?

近几年城市发生了什么变化?

 

Some people say Beijing is like a huge construction site. Many streets are being widened and more subways tunnels are being built. The government is making great effort to deal with the pollution and it has been improved.

一些人说北京像一个巨大的施工工地,许多街道正在拓宽,更多的地铁正在兴建。政府正做最大的努力去解决污染问题,并且已取得了成效。

 

2、What famous buildings are there in the city?

城市中最著名的建筑是什么?

 

There are many famous buildings in Beijing, but the most distinctive ones are ancient architectures. The Forbidden City is a world heritage. Over 100,000 craftsmen and one million laborers were involved in the construction of the 9,999 rooms and halls. The walls surrounding the complex are eleven feet thick and thirty-three feet high and it is surrounded by a 164-foot wide moat. At each corner there are watchtowers for protection from possible invaders. The entire complex covers 250 acres.

北京有许多著名的建筑,特别引人注目的是古代建筑。紫禁城是世界文化遗产,共有9999间房屋和殿堂,十万多名工匠和百万多名劳工参与了紫禁城的建造。这座综合建筑群周围有11英尺厚33英尺高的城墙,外面有164英尺宽的护城河环绕。在每个角落都建有瞳望塔,防御可能的来犯之敌。整座综合建筑群占地250英亩。

 

3、What problems does pollution bring about to the city?

污染给城市带来什么问题?

 

Both the manufacturing industry and emissions of cars are responsible for the pollution of Beijing. Pollution makes the health of the citizens decrease. It causes many diseases,especially respiratory diseases like tracheitis. In addition, waste products that can't be broken down in the environment will also be a problem for the city to deal with.

制造业和汽车尾气排放是北京的主要污染源。污染导致居民的健康水平下降,引起了许多疾病,比如说呼吸系统疾病——气管炎。此外,废弃物不能在环境中分解也将是城市需要解决的问题。

 

4、What do you want to do for the city?

你想为城市做点什么?

 

As a citizen of the city, I would like to make every effort to make our city more beautiful. I'm not a decision maker so I can't make any plans for the city. I believe I can start from the very basic to help with the improvement of the city. I want to be a volunteer to guide the foreign visitors in some places of interest, introducing them some knowledge of Beijing. I also want to donate one or two month of my salaries to the Olympic Game. If all Chinese workers would like to do that, that'll be a large sum for the reconstruction of Beijing.

作为城市居民,我将尽最大的努力使我的城市变得更加美丽。我不是决策者,所以我不能为城市做什么规划。我相信我将从最基础的事做起,以帮助改善城市的面貌。我想成为一个在名胜区给外国人做导游的志愿者,介绍有关北京的情况。我也想向奥运会捐出我1~2个月的工资。如果所有的中国人都能这样,将会为北京的改扩建工程筹集一大笔资金。

 

5、Is there anything in the city that needs improving?

城市中有什么需要改善的么?

 

In my review, except the treatment of pollution, traffic condition also needs to be improved.The government hasn't had any restrictions on the purchase of private cars. Besides, the price of the cars has been on a decline. In addition, the public transportation is not well developed yet. I believe the government will start to take measures on the traffic congestions very soon.

我认为,除污染需要治理外,交通条件也有待改善。政府一直没有对购买私家车有任何限制。

而且车价一直下跌。另外,公共交通也不是很发达。我相信政府很快就会采取措施,解决交通拥挤问题。

 

6、What are the differences between cities and countryside?

城市和农村有什么不同?

 

There are many differences between cities and countryside. The life styles in cities are more diversified because there're various kinds of places for studies and entertainment.Comparatively speaking, it is more monotonous living in the countryside. However, the simplified life in countryside helps retain a more peaceful place with fresh vegetables and fruits. There is much less dense population and no pollution.

城市和农村有很大差别。城市生活方式更加多元化,因为这里有各种各样的学习和娱乐场所。

相对而言,生活在农村就有点单调乏味了。然而,淳朴的民风有助于保持乡村生活的宁静,并且总能吃到新鲜的蔬菜和水果。在农村人口密度小,并且没有污染。

 

7、Why do more and more people want to move to large cities?

为什么越来越多的人搬到大城市?

 

It's human nature to explore the unknown world. Such is the psychology of the immigrants moving to large cities. People like to know more about large cities and enjoy the conveniences that large cities bring to them. There are more opportunities for jobs and money. Besides, there is better cultural and commercial environment.

人类本性就是探索未知世界,这种心理导致人们向大城市流动,人们想更多地了解大城市,享受大城市所带给他们的快乐,在大城市里有更多的就业和赚钱的机会。此外,还有更好的文化和商业环境。

 

8、What does the government do to develop cities?

政府有什么发展城市的做法?

 

The government invests a large sum of money on the infrastructure of the cities. It tries to make more reasonable city planning for the reconstruction of many buildings and streets,as well as the development of new areas of the cities. The government further modernizes the transportation and public facilities. In addition, the government will strengthen the economic ties between cities for further exchanges and improvement.

政府在城市基础设施上投资巨大,并且努力制定出更为合理的城市规划,完善建筑和街道布局,并且发展城市新区。政府还进一步推进城市交通和公共设施现代化。另外,政府将进一步加强和改善城市间的经济交流与合作。

 

9、How will the cities develop in the future?

在未来城市将会怎么发展?

 

In the future, the cities will be more modernized with advanced infrastructure. The government will develop the cities more scientifically. Many difficult problems, such as pollution and traffic congestion, will be overcome. As modernized the cities are, they will develop in a natural course to have people enjoy the elements nature provides. The cities will utilize more natural resources, like solar energy, for the development of the cities.

将来,随着基础设施的完善,城市将会更加现代化。政府会更科学地发展城市,许多困难问题——诸如污染和交通拥挤——将会得到解决。现代化城市的发展,将会遵循自然规律,让人们享受自然赋予我们的财富。城市的发展将会更充分地利用自然资源,比如说太阳能。
