2021-03-18

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. You should write at least 250 words .

Present a written argument to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic:

Some people say that children should obey the rules and do what their parents and teaches want them to do, while other people think that if there is too much control on children, they will not be well-prepared for their adult life. Discuss

both sides and give your own opinion.

Use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your argument with examples and relevant evidence.

Question Analysis

Both parents and teachers want to help young kids to learn to behave well and therefore give all kinds of instructions to them. Some believe that children benefit a lot from rules and disciplines; however, a few argue that this prevents children from growing into a socially adaptable future generation. As far as I am concerned, both viewpoints are correct, but only to a certain extent.

To start with, most children do not have the ability to distinguish right from wrong or good from evil, so a disciplined upbringing is essential in their formative years. Strict parenting ensures the safety of children. Small kids are always curious about things around them and like to experiment with behaviors that are sometimes dangerous. A simple rule such as "do not play with fire' may keep children away from being burned by uncontrollable flames. Besides, obeying their teachers' rules at school and therefore studying more effectively, students can stand a better chance of achieving an outstanding academic performance. Moreover, "listen attentively during lessons", "finish homework on time" and "do not be late for class" are all rules that a student should follow in order to get the most out of his school life.

On the other hand, however, too many rules and regulations may interfere with children's desire to be free, independent and creative. For example, an obedient and submissive child who sits quietly and passively in the classroom may find himself totally disorientated when he enters the society because the increasingly competitive world tends to put more value on passion, inspiration, individuality and creativity than on conformity and compliance. What is ever worse, a child who is constantly being supervised by his parents and teachers may finally develop a strong resentment towards them and even reject the whole society, especially when no justification is given for why an instruction must be followed. To a lesser extent, the child may deceive his supervisors by keeping a docile facade while concealing an inner rebelliousness towards any authorities.

From my point of view, a healthy balance should be maintained between exercising disciplines on children and allowing them autonomy. Of course, without the necessary rules and guidance children may become mischievous and unruly; however, it should be remembered that mistakes and misbehaviors are part of their normal childhood experiences. Therefore, children must not be treated as an object to be modeled into a spitting image of their parents or teachers, but as free individuals who have their own ways of thinking, emotions and inclinations.

Essay Analysis

Introduction

Both parents and teachers want to help young kids to learn to behave well and therefore give all kinds of instructions to them.

Introduction

Some believe that children benefit a lot from rules and disciplines; however, a few argue that this prevents children from growing into a socially adaptable future generation.

Introduction

As far as I am concerned, both viewpoints are correct, but only to a certain extent.

Main Body 1

To start with , most children do not have the ability to distinguish right from wrong or good from evil , so a disciplined upbringing is essential in their formative years.

Strict parenting ensures the safety of children.

Small kids are always curious about things around them and like to experiment with behaviors that are sometimes dangerous.

A simple rule such as " do not play with fire " may keep children away from being burned by uncontrollable flames.

Besides, obeying their teachers' rules at school and therefore studying more effectively, students can stand a better chance of achieving an outstanding academic performance.

Moreover,"listen attentively during lessons","finish homework on time"and"do not be late for class" are all rules that a student should follow in order to get the most out of his school life.

Main Body 2

On the other hand, however, too many rules and regulations may interfere with children's desire to be free, independent and creative.

For example, an obedient and submissive child who sits quietly and passively in the classroom may find himself totally disorientated when he enters the society because the increasingly competitive world tends to put more value on passion, inspiration, individuality and creativity than on conformity and compliance.

What is even worse, a child who is constantly being supervised by his parents and teachers may finally develop a strong resentment towards them and over reject the whole society, especially when no justification is given for why an instruction must be followed.

To a lesser extent, the child may deceive his supervisors by keeping a docile facade while concealing an inner rebelliousness towards any authorities.

Conclusion

From my point of view, a healthy balance should be maintained between exercising disciplines on children and allowing them autonomy.

Conclusion

Of course, without the necessary rules and guidance children may become mischievous and unruly; however, it should be remembered that mistakes and misbehaviors are part of their normal childhood experiences.

Conclusion

Therefore , children must not be treated as an object to be modeled into a spitting image of their parents or teachers, but as free individuals who have their own ways of thinking, emotions and inclinations.
